Things are slowly starting to get warmed up on the backside of Churchill Downs. A lot of the popular trainers, that are most commonly tied to Churchill, are still in Florida or Arkansas. However, some are beginning to move in and have been sending horses to the track for the last couple days. This morning quite a few horses from Bret Calhoun’s barn were on the track along with some Lukas' teams, among many others. SteveAsmussen’s barn quickly filled up this morning with horses vanning in from the Fair Grounds. Along with horses in Asmussen’s barn, ToddPletcher has a barn full as well.
One horse who is on the grounds that is expected to be in the field for this year’s KentuckyDerby is BlackOnyx. We caught up with him outside his stall early this morning.
Tomorrow we take our action on the road to Keeneland as the Horse of the Year, Wise Dan, is expected to work.
